Most people watching this movie, would not know the truth. Also, Hiroshima did not look like Manhattan as shown in the film. I googled for movies on Hiroshima, and found Hiroshima: Out of the Ashes...and when I looked up the actors who starred in this movie I found Judd Nelson among those...and remembered he was one of the primary actors. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It shows the anguish of searching for your loved ones and the despair of finding them dead. Having said this, most of the people today who are watching this movie, do not know or realize that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, were in retaliation to the horrific unprovoked attack upon Pearl Harbor, by the Japanese, that resulted in the deaths of many thousands of innocent Americans, mostly young men, and also destroyed much of America's Pacific fleet.
I don't think the makers of this film researched period photos or they would have not depicted people with neatly combed hair. Documentary with dramatic reenactments with actors to describe what dropping the bomb on Hiroshima was like. There were a lot of innocent people who were injured or died. When I ran across it, I knew I had to own it. In one blinding flash, 100,000 lives were wiped out. This is every bit of a 5 star movie...and I believe anyone who watches this will concur ! I love the historical view from the Japanese side. I know, kids are more mature these days, but seeing flesh burned off of a human being isn't something I'd allow any child to see. The movie follows the perspective of several characters (such as Japanese victims, soldiers, American prisoners of war and others) and how they lived or tried to survive the effects felt during the aftermath of the Atomic Bomb dropping by the Enola Gay at Hiroshima, during World War II. I can't say for sure but it does show what the bomb did to the characters it focused on and makes me wonder.....is war really worth it? This film gives a very good description of what it might have been to be in a city a see it being completely destroyed. This is the most heart-rending of them all. It was hard enough for ME to see it! The cinematography is excellent and you find yourself drawn into the lives of a few families who had to deal with the consequences of that horrific day. The complicated relationship between physicist Leo Szilard, scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and General Leslie Groves. Life in Hiroshima, following different Japanese, a German priest and church, and some American POWs, before and after the atomic bomb was dropped August 6, 1945. Not showing this, and instead showing the Japanese as being nothing more than innocent victims, is just wrong. A reminder that this should never happen again.
